Today she is a tremendously admired individual full of respect for animals and their rights. During the earlier years, she gained attention as an appealing movie star, captivating audiences for over 35 years. She was adorned with comedic acting talent as well as massive singing, dancing, and entertaining talents displayed in delightful and uplifting movies, unlike anything seen today.

Do You Recall Movies That Left You With A Good Feeling?

People flocked to her innovative films by the thousands, ready to be whisked away into adventures of mischief, playful episodes of family fun and mishaps galore. The mood of America was optimistic and the movies portrayed this beautifully. Rock Hudson was her favorite co-star, it seemed since he was in numerous movies with her, and so popular. He was as handsome as she was charmingly beautiful, and both expressed vibrant happiness.

I doubt if anyone ever cried during one of her movies, for she was the epitome of joy, comedy, and hopeful expectation. This darling actress has created laughter for millions of viewers during her energetic films of family life in America. They are undoubtedly still watched by today’s audiences.

To the Present with Doris Day

Presently, she has achieved fame as one of the strongest advocates for pets. She lives in a retreat in Carmel, California pursuing her life passion, the realization of a better world for animals, her first love.

She has established the Doris Day Animal League advocating homes and proper care of household pets. I’d like to take you on a tour of her remarkable journey of overcoming personal obstacles in addition to providing her audience with the gift of joyous laughter along the way.

Her Continual Climb in Spite of Disappointments

From 1959 for the following 8 years, this woman was one of the top 10 film stars. She had worked since the age of 16, and during the process of her remarkable life, has had absolutely no luck with 4 husbands.

At 22 years of age, she got married to a trombonist, a schizophrenic sadist, who beat her while she was pregnant with son, Terry.

After the divorce, she married saxophone player, George Weidler. It lasted until her career ballooned and his did not. Then, she was single once again.

She then married Marty Melcher, who became her husband and business manager. When he died after 17 years of marriage, she discovered she had been signed to contracts by him that she was unaware of. Not only that, but millions of dollars had been stolen from her, and he had stolen millions from her by her third husband.

After that, she determined not to marry again unless she lived with the man first. She did exactly that with restaurant chain owner, Barry Comden. She parted from him, her #4 husband, within 4 years. Since 1981, there has been no husband. But, she does not live alone. She has plenty of furry companionship.

Determined, She Continues in Pure Contentment

Today, in her 80’s, living on 11 of the most beautiful wooded cliff top acres in the world overlooking a golf course, she peacefully co-exists with her multiple dogs, cats, and birds. Four housekeepers help look after the many animals she adores. The housekeepers cook the food for the canines, but she is the one who feeds them.

This classic lady loves animals, and loves her spectacular life. As a devout Christian Scientist and a wholly vigorous and fulfilled individual with her pets, she follows her edict of belief in full satisfaction of her life surrounded by fantastic natural beauty in the midst of her furry and feathered company. Pets fill her life in every possible way as she walks the path of her chosen edict -- "Gratitude is Riches, Complaint is Poverty.”
