Wisconsin is the top dairy producer in the US as well as having the monstrous Cyclone in Wisconsin Dells which is the tallest Waterslide in North America

Heskousing

The name, Wisconsin, is an anglicized version of the French rendering of the Algonquin name Heskousing meaning ‘this stream of red stone’ referring to the Wisconsin River. Madison, a city located in the south central part of the state, is the capital of this intriguing state. It is definitely one of the largest manufacturing states in the country. The southern 2/3 of the state makes Wisconsin the top producer of cheese and one of the top producers of milk and butter because of favorable soil, climate, and topography. That’s why it’s the Dairy Capital of the US. The northern section is sparsely settled due to it being a center for tourism and recreational activity. It is considered primarily lake country, filled with an evergreen-hardwood forest.

6 Primary Regions of the State

The first region is in Northern Wisconsin, with a section of Minnesota and has one of the largest concentrations of lakes in the whole world. There are more than 15,000 inland lakes of more than 20 acres for a total of 1500 square miles. An interesting fact is that only 1/5 of these lakes are not accessible to the public because of restrictions of private property owners. The largest is Lake Winnebago. The second region is that of the Lake Superior Lowland. Lake Superior, the largest fresh-water lake in the world, has steeply rising walls. Bounded by these, it is a lake set deeply in a highland.

There is the third region, that of the Central Sand Plain. This area includes the Black River State Forest and the Necodah National Wildlife Refuge. The fourth is the Western Upland, a rugged hilly region, deeply dissected by rivers and streams. Fifth is the Eastern Ridges and Lowlands, Wisconsin’s most populous region. Wisconsin is one of few states in which most of all drainage is outflowing. The climate of this northern state is long, cold winters, and warm, relatively short summers.

Worth of Wisconsin

It’s worth plenty to the tourists who flock to this fun area of massive proportions. Whether it’s the exciting Oshkosh Airventure occurring July 25-31, 2011, or fabulous Oshkosh shopping or a visit to Sheboygan, an interesting town right on Lake Michigan. It can be thrilling, and that’s an understatement. Did you know that the Oshkosh Airport is the world’s busiest airport? It’s guaranteed that no one can miss the impact of this state.

Wisconsin Dells

Let’s zip into Wisconsin Dells, and see what’s there. On a 1 mile stretch in Downtown Wisconsin Dells you can discover mini-golf courses, gift shops, fudge and sweet shops, antique shops, haunted houses, museums, dining pleasures, and more. It’s your choice between a Duck amphibious vehicle ride, or riverboat dinner cruise, and some other available options, like Visions of Vegas, which is quite a show. There’s even free live entertainment. And, when you wish for more fun, you can go to the Indoor Waterparks. You can have some ‘head spinning,’ ‘clothes drenching’ and ‘scream-inducing’ fun riding the Wild Thing Jet Boats on the Upper Dells. 150 years ago visitors came to Wisconsin Dells where the Wisconsin River bisects the town and the sandstone bluffs teeter above it. Wisconsin invites you to its enervating state for R&R&R: rest, recuperation, and romance.

Wonders of Wisconsin

The state’s 7,446 streams and rivers standing end to end would stretch 26, 767 miles. That’s more than enough to circle the globe at the equator.

With an average of 2,500 performers, Milwaukee’s Summerfest is the nation’s largest music festival.

The House on the Rock, designed and built in the early 1940’s, is an architectural marvel perched on a 60 foot chimney of rock located in Dodgeville. The 14-room house is now a complex of rooms, streets, buildings, and gardens covering over 600 acres. The Infinity Room contains 3,264 windows.

The American Birkebeiner, a 52K cross-country ski race between Cable and Hayward is the largest on the North American continent.
